The brief: Detail were approached by the Sport Relief team who had hatched a plan with Olympic double gold medallist James Cracknell to highlight the plight of Africa by showing how close Africa really is to the UK. As we found out, Africa is in fact 1460 miles from Dover and Detail were with James all the way as he rowed, cycled and swam his way to Punta Cires on the Moroccan coast. Organising logistics, media access, permissions and full on-the-road support, the event team set off in March 2008 at a time of year when neither the row across the Channel or the swim across the straits of Gibraltar had ever been attempted. 10 days later, James came ashore in Morocco with David Walliams at his side, having joined in to swim the Straits. The week after, we were all at Television Centre watching the Challenge beamed live to 10 million viewers as part of Sport Relief 2008. James and David raised over £340 000 for Sport Relief through this epic adventure and Detail played its part in organising full logistical support of this expedition. |
