Challengers and Racers
Amends to Essential Event Info pdf document:

  1. When you drop equipment at the Cawdor Castle transition, you can now put this into a pack attached to your bike (see below).
  2. Challengers - Saturday overnight bag can be dropped off with us again for Day 2 anytime between 0600 and 0900 (last start time) at Fort Augustus camp ground.
  3. The car parking and bike zone at Isles of Glencoe has moved and grown! Look out for this signed on the day and you can see the updated map on the amended Essential Event Info pdf document.

We are looking to make life simpler for you, and allowing you to drop a small pack (attached) to your bike when you drop it off at Cawdor Castle on the Friday. In good weather this might mean that you run with little kit (only the mandatory kit) on Saturday morning, but please look ahead on the weather on this choice - you will be stood at the start for a little while before the off! Please check Essential Event Info for Mandatory Kit Lists. Please remember that when you drop your kit in readiness at the Cawdor Castle transition area, it will be open to the elements. So if it rains overnight you’ll have wanted your kit in an appropriate bag.

Supporters (Challenger and Racer): To reiterate, we cannot have close support at Cawdor Castle as this is not a public area, and then later there is no parking within our event campground at Fort Augustus. We recommend that you intersect at alternative places and for Fort Augustus the Lovat Arms Hotel is a good place to wait-up, and very close to the event campground. At Claggan (Fort William) once again, there is no parking or room for close support. The solution is to park away from the transition and walk in. We are not stopping you supporting your loved one’s but this Challenger and Racer format has always been designed as an ‘Organiser Supported’ format.

Please ask your supporters to take a journey route that is NOT on narrow roads of the exact event route. Please take other A roads, and especially useful are the A82 to Fort Augustus or the road through Dores to Fort Augustus, and do not hurry anywhere – there should be plenty of time. The narrow road that descends to Inverfarigaig is strictly out of bounds to vehicles associated with this event.

Challengers - food
A reminder that we have catering on hand for you to buy food at the Fort Augustus camp ground on Saturday afternoon, evening and on Sunday morning and we have a bar too, with some delicious hand-pulled real ales from the Aviemore-based Cairngorm Brewery, plus wine and soft drinks. Then at the finish at Glencoe, we’ll give you all a bowl of some hot soup with our compliments (given to ALL finishers!) – look after your soup voucher from the Finishline and cash it in at our on-site caterer. The caterers will be serving into the evening too, for you to buy food as you wish.

Racers
The big question for you Racers is; ‘Will you catch the Experts??’

Experts
We now highly recommend for you to have a sealed mobile phone. If you land a little earlier than you intended during your Loch Ness kayak, and wish to abandon, this will keep you in touch with your support crew and the organisers. If you abandon on the remote south shore then this contact becomes even more useful to you and us. Get hold of the Ordnance Survey mapping of south Loch Ness, or look online, and you will see the separation between the road and shore of the south side. On the north side, the A82 appears near, but there is little parking and very steep ground in between the road and the shore. As you are experienced kayakers you should prepare for contingencies with your support crew, should you bail on this stage. Of course, our safety boats can intervene, but do plan ahead on this trip as if you are solo.

Enquiries
Our event team is now out of office organising Scotland Coast to Coast until Tuesday 21st September. Please note that we cannot answer any further enquiries regarding this event over the phone or by email. Your enquiry will be answered on the day at the registration.

The Closing Party
Not much has been mentioned on this, though we have had an enquiry about dress code! This party is your opportunity to let it all go – perhaps you have squeezed a Jimmy hat and a kilt into you overnight bag for a real shindig? If you still have the energy....

You will have completed a great journey. Let’s all celebrate together!

See you very soon.
